Bituminous Systems (BUR, SBS, APP)\n\n\n\nPresenter: Melody Reh – Johns Manville\nAbout the Presentation: This presentation will explore the history, define the properties and characteristics, and highlight best installation practices related to BUR, SBS, and APP bituminous roofing systems.\nAbout the Presenter: Melody Reh is from the Specifier Services at Johns Manville, where she has worked for over 2 years after coming from the architectural community. She resides in the mountains of Colorado with her family and various farm animals.\nLearning Objectives:\n1. Introduce material types, properties, and characteristics of SBS and APP roofing membranes.\n2. Gain an understanding of the different system applications and performance characteristics.\n3. Principles of Below Grade Structural Waterproofing\nPresenter: Nitharsan Kugadas – Sika Corporation\nAbout the Presentation: The overall emphasis of this presentation is to discuss waterproofing systems for below grade structural applications with an emphasis on foundation walls and underslab applications. This technical presentation will begin with a discussion covering the definition of waterproofing versus dampproofing, a brief history of waterproofing, and examination of the typical types of structures that require below grade waterproofing. The presentation will then discuss the design considerations that affect the selection of a waterproofing system, including water management, waterproofing location, and protection system.\nAbout the Presenter: Nitharsan “Nedi” Kugadas is a Product Engineer with Sika Corporation’s below grade waterproofing team. He’s been with Sika for close to 6 years. His previous roles include Global Product Management and Research and Development of sheet waterproofing products.\nLearning Objectives:\n1. Shotcrete Foundations and Blind-side Waterproofing\nPresenters: Megan Toumanios and Anthony Nicastro – Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH)\nAbout the Presentation: Shotcrete as a foundation wall casting method is gaining popularity in the Mid-Atlantic construction marketplace. During this presentation, Megan A. Toumanios and Anthony J. Nicastro of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger will discuss shotcrete foundation walls and how it differs from cast-in-place foundation walls, common techniques and products tailored to shotcrete construction, and management of water intrusion risk through best practices. The presentation will discuss both ACI-based requirements for shotcrete placement and those instituted by waterproofing manufacturers to achieve a successful, watertight foundation structure.\nAbout the Presenters:  Megan A. Toumanios is a Senior Consulting Engineer in Simpson Gumpertz & Heger’s Building Technology group in Washington, DC, with over nine years of building enclosure consulting experience. Megan’s projects include new design consultation, field investigation work, condition assessments, and repair design and rehabilitation of building enclosure systems. She has worked with architects, building owners, and contractor clients to provide expertise and delver building enclosure solutions in below-grade waterproofing, exterior wall cladding systems, air and water barriers, fenestration systems, and roofing.\nAnthony Nicastro is an Associate Principal in Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc.’s Building Technology group. He has national experience in the investigation, design, and construction contract administration of building enclosure components for major institutional, commercial, educational, and residential buildings. He has consulted with architects, building owners, and contractors to analyze facade design concepts, evaluate construction defects, and develop repairs for complex enclosure issues.\nLearning Objectives:\n1. Discuss shotcrete standards and their relationship to waterproofing, including existing QA/QC procedures.\n2. Evaluate potential risks associated with shotcrete foundation walls based on project-specific geotechnical conditions.\n3. Identify available waterproofing materials for use in conjunction with shotcrete.\n4. Summarize design and construction administration strategies to manage water leakage risk for shotcrete foundation walls.\n4. Raise Your Expectations of Continuous Insulation and Air Barrier Systems\nPresenter: Wesley Price – Tremco Roofing & Building Maintenance\nAbout the Presentation:  This program is designed to give participants an overview of the features, benefits and advantages of Insulated Concrete Forms as a better alternative for a building envelope. Such topics as thermal mass performance, fire resistance ratings, and sound attenuation performances are some of the key items discussed within this presentation. Additional discussions also covered are building types, environmental, design and construction benefits along with the basic installation techniques associated with this type of construction.\nAbout the Presenter: Wes Price is part of Tremco’s offsite team that focuses on developing unique solutions for the prefabrication, panelization, and modular side of construction to enhance performance while still capturing the time, schedule, and labor savings associated with offsite construction. These solutions incorporate anything from the air barrier to precompressed joint sealants to claddings with the goal of creating a systems approach to the entire building exterior.\nLearning Objectives:\n1.
